Wm Whitefield Rev War Record
I found this reference way back in 1988 when doing research at the Nat'l Archives but have not been able to pin down exactly what it refers to.Anyone know? It's from the "Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution 1775-1783" by John Gwathmry, The Dietz Press, Richmond, VA., 1938.The ref is: "WHITEFIELD, William, wife Mary aided in Goochland Oct 19, 1778."The book said that where no specific ref is given, the name is to be found in the alph. indexed papers in the Old Records Division, Adjutant General's Office, War Dept., Washington D.C., or in the Navy Dept.I've tried the Defense Dept. and the DAR, but have not been successful in tracking down what this means - obviously there was some incident on this date in which Wm.'s wife Mary was also involved.I'd really like to know more details, if anyone can help.
