Yes, I agree this fits very well. When William married in 1888, he gaves his father's occupation as a farmer.

Searching the Bedford Records Office on-line database, I note a reference to a Richard Whitebread of Eversholt, and a John Whitebread of Shitlington (Shillington), as recusants. The Essex Whitebreads, who were somewhere else stated as being ancestors of the Enfield Whitebreads, were recusants. Do you think there might be any connection.
