Earnest 'Poppy' White, 69, passed away Monday, October 26, 2009, in a Richlands, VA, hospital. He was born June 20, 1940, in Buchanan County, VA, the son of the late Vince and Ida Bell Keene White. He was a member of Layman's Chapel Church and attended Gethsemane Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of S & S Machinery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Rita Kaye Herald; his first wife, Cleta June White; and two sisters, Ruby Huteo and Trula Bea White. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hinkle White; two grandsons, John Herald III and Earnest Mackenzie Herald, both of Pounding Mill; son-in-law, John Herald Jr., of Pounding Mill; two brothers, Hullin White and wife Lorraine of Patterson and Louie White of Cedar Bluff, VA; one sister, Zell Keene of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Jeanna Hess and husband Joe of Jewell Ridge; two stepsons, John Michael Johnson and wife Lorrie of Reiner, VA, and Jason Johnson and wife Kristi of Weber City, VA; eight step- grandchildren, Kristi Herald, Amanda White and husband Jack, LaQuada Taylor and husband Mark, JoKala Hess, John Hess, Josh Anders, Travis Anders and wife Selina, Avery Johnson, and Gabe Johnson; five step- great-grandchildren, Breanna Herald Annelise Anders, Tyler, and Brooklyn and Mason White; granddaughter of the heart, Ashley Sargent; three nieces, Joyce Honaker and husband Rick, Shelia Hawk and husband Ronnie, and Lisa Vance; four nephews, Hullin White Jr., Ricky White, Danny Keene and wife Judy, and Vernon Altizer; special friends, employees of S & S, Denny and Janice Deel, Dicky and Dollie Ferrell, Neda Jackson, Keith and Beverly Sargent, and Jim and Angie Denton; sisters-in-law, Alma Bragg and husband John of Newark, DEL, and Janet Dye and husband Brian of Jewell Ridge; brothers-in-law, Carl Hinkle and wife Moselle of Suffolk, VA, Larry Hinkle, and Ed Hale, both of Richlands, VA. The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, VA, with Rev. Jim Denton, Rev. Everette Mullins and Rev. Dean Hess officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Mark Taylor, Jack White, Mackenzie Herald, John Herald III, John Hess, and Brian Dye. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren.
