My grandmother's birth certificate sites Eliza Hill (formerly whitbread) as her mother. I have a photo of her, with my grandmother on her knee. However she did not marry a mackgrew but a George John Hill. The family story also states that she married beneath her and was apparently struck off. I too am trying to find her link. The birth certicate gives Norwood as their address @ 59 Clarence Street.
