Hi Linda, The problem is that there were several strains of Whitakers came to the U.S. and settled sometimes in adjoining counties. Makes it hard to keep the families straight. The Pennsylvania Whitakers moved on into KY, where there are more than one branch of Whitakers. My Whitakers came to America in 1607 and 1619, were in Virginia for a couple of generations, then hopped over Maryland to North Carolina, where they stayed long enough to put an imprint on the land. Then moved to SC, GA, MS, FL, and points between. They are all descendants, documented, from Dr. William A. Whitaker, the foremost theologian in the time of Queen Elizabeth, I. Their family seat was "The Holme" in Lancaster shire. I've published a book on them: "Whitakers of the HOlme and their Descendants in America." It's available on Amazon.
