There has been lots of information on the Whitakers posted in the past year or two, photos that have surfaced, and other fun stuff,now on this site. You all must also visit the Macon County, NC museum site to see the photos of the re-enactment held this past May of the Last Battle of the Civil War (NC) (Stephen and other Whitakers and related kin) and the dedication of the historical marker, which includes Captain Stephen Whitaker; also all of the new information many of us have contributed to the thomaslegion.net site which has Captain Whitakers civil war letters; and much info about the Thomas' Legion (ie, William Holland Thomas), which served the Confederate States from Western NC in the civil war. Lots of great stories and links. Matthew Parker is the webmaster, and he is doing a wonderful job. His site is now recognized by the history channel. There are also a few links some us have referred people to for random and various Whitaker genealogies (no guarantees, but always good places for mining tidbits, which can then lead to other good stuff..)
