Double Wedding
The West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland, Ind., was beautifully decorated with large baskets of white gladiolas and vases of pink and white snap dragons and lighted candelabra Sunday when at 1:30 in the afternoon two sisters, Mary Kathryn and Phyllis Maxine were given in marriage by their father, Dwight Whitacre, Kathryn to David F. Heiby, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heiby of Fort Recovery, Ohio, and Phyllis to John C. Badders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cloyce Badders of Portland.
Mary Kathryn entered on the arm of her father attended by her cousin, Wanda Whitacre of Portland, Phyllis on the arm of her brother-in-law, Howard Shorey of Fort Wayne. Her attendant was Ruth Ann Davidson
The double ring ceremony was read by Rev. Marshall Weaver before about 350 invited guests.
Mary Kathryn wore a white gown of satin and net, a yoke net with a lace ruffle around the large yoke, the bodice of satin covered buttons down the back, long satin sleeves coming to points on the wrists; a tulle net skirt, finger tip veil of illusion net caught with pink rose buds.
She wore a wooden cross on a gold chain, a gift of the groom, and carried a bouquet of American Beauty and white roses.
Her attendant wore a blue satin and crepe dress with a white carnation corsage.
Phyllis wore a gown of white silk with net yoke and lace ruffle around it and long sleeves coming to points. Her veil and bouquet were like her sister’s.
Her attendant, Ruth Ann Davidson, of Portland, wore a sheer pink crepe dress and carried a white carnation corsage.
David Heiby was attended by his brother, Ernest, of Washington, D. C.; John Badders by Verner Badger, of Portland.
The ushers were David Heidegger, of Belefountaine, [sic Bellfountain] Ind., and Fred Graff, of Fort Recovery, Jainey Miller, Portland and James Carter, of Fort Wayne. All men wore dark suits and white carnation boutonnières.
Mrs. Whitacre wore a grey woolen suit with wine yarn trim and matching accessories. Mrs. Heiby, David’s mother, wore a navy blue lace dress with black accessories. Mrs. Badders wore a grey suit. All three had American Beauty rose corsages.
Mrs. James Burk, organist, played Leibestraum, To A Wild Rose, Believe Me, If all Those Endearing Young Charms, Wedding March by Lohengrin, and the Lord’s Prayer during the ceremony. The recessional was by Mendelsohn.
A reception, from 3 to 5 o’clock followed at the home of the bride’s parents.
After a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Heiby will reside on a farm one mile southeast of Bellefountaine, Ind., and Mr. and Mrs. Badders at Fort Wayne, where both are attending school.
