My last name is a very unusual spelling of Whisman, including a 't' in the middle. There are very few of us in the United States with this spelling.
Growing up, my grandfather (Earl Whistman)told a story of an argument between brothers in Kentucky that resulted in a split and name change.
I am interested in knowing more about my family's history... if anybody can provide more details, or a specific link to the Whisman line, it would be appreciated. Here is what I know now, through my grandmother, Earl's wife, Dorothy:
Earl William Whistman was born October 4, 1919 in Harlan (or Horton? sp?) Kentucky.
(Grandma's handwriting is hard to read!)
Mother: Medi (sp?) May Whistman
Father: John Whistman
Children: Ray, Earl, Gracie, Garrie (sp?), Hobert, Irene, Beryl, Dovie (sp?), Hagy, Curtis.
Grandma says that Earl is related to Bushes (a lot of them in Kentucky and Virginia) also McKnights and Paynes.
Any additional details or links into the Whisman line would be appreciated.
