Jacob (father) was my wife's great-great grandfather. His son John is her great grandfather. In the 1870 census, the three sons (John, Jacob, and William Spencer) were in the same house as Henry and Sarah Whipple and Phebe Wood (possibly a relation to Jacob Spencer's (the father) 2nd wife and mother of the 3 boys.
