I've copied the below few paragraphs for you. Does any of this sound familiar, or line up with any of your research? Bottom line is I'm looking for my 5th Great grandmother Aurilla or Orilla or Aurelia Bush or Clark for the past nearly 30 years to no avail - obviously! Too many stories and little proof in Berkshire County, MA, where she supposedly was born ca. 1800. "According to notes by Ray S. Owens, "Orilla Bush, father died, mother married again, stepfather found her out. Married and ran away very young with Wm. O. Rice. She is supposed to have part of right to land on which Auburn NY is built. Orilla Rice was a very nice woman." Probably notes taken while talking with Flora Sprague, his mother, Orilla's granddaughter. Burr Sprague papers have a note: Aurelia Clark was the daughter of John Clark and Mary Whipple and that Mary was the daughter of William Whipple and Mary_____. Aurelia was buried in Center Cemetery, Rock County, WI. "I am back to working on genealogy. In fact, I have been writing up all my work into books for my family, one ancestry book for each of my kids' grandparents. I am working on my mother's now, which includes the Rices. I saw your entries on Family Tree at Ancestry.com and thought I would drop you an email and say hello. I know you have corresponded with the Patricia Nelson who has entries in Pedigree Files at familysearch.com. The reason I ask is that she has a wife and family for Henry Rice, oldest child of William O. and Orilla. I happened on an 1850 census for the same family in Lee, Oneida Co., NY, and thought it looked like a real possibility for the Henry who stayed in NY and died in Oneida County, NY. I finally found William Rice on the 1840 census in Boonville (index spelled name Rick, an error when you look at it) and Henry Rice lives next door. I have been thinking on the birth date of Orilla (1805) which fits all the census reportings of age. But do you realize the Henry was born in 1817, when she was twelve? It does appear to me that they may have lived with her stepfather for a while. The 1820 census for Ziba Bush contains a lot of people and they could fit there. By 1830 the Ziba Bush family has trimmed down and does not appear to include them. Did you ever find a photo of Orilla? Would love a copy if you did! Sincerely, Polly In the 1880 census it shows Orilla M Rice is listed as MotherL in the family of Lorenzo, age 43,and Jeanette Witham, age 33. Shows Orilla was born in MA and her parents were born in Maine." Does any of this ring a bell to you?????????????????? I thank you in advance for taking the time to read my mystery!
