Help connecting to the Whipples

I live in Lexington, KY and was born in Warren, Pennsylvania. My dad is also David Whipple. His father was Clark "Doc" Whipple. He had a big band in New York and also did music for NBC (the Howdy Doody show, etc.). I have been unable to get any further back than that unfortunately because everyone on my Dad's side, except my dad, is dead. I my Dad did have a brother Tom who lived in Texas for a while. Where would be a good place to start? Thanks.
