Hi Jan, THANKS SO MUCH FOR RESPONDING!!!! Wondering if you have access to Ancestry or HeritageQuest? I failed to mention that I have found the following surnames of Nova Scotia which I feel may connect to my line: DAVID WILLDEN, DANA WEEDEN, JAMES WEADEN (WHEDON) and a JAMES WHEATON. As I mentioned, I have yet to hear from anyone who claims kinship to my line, which I believe originated in VA and may have some connection to a GEORGE WHELDON/WELDON, free Negro that Paul Heinegg lists as living in 1810, Westmoreland, VA. Where and how the WEEDEN spelling came into play is a moot question, but find it used interchangeably w/26 other spellings, all of which appear to have merit. The only thing I know for certain is that my ggrands settled in Wilmington, NC and were there until 1910. WM LAWRENCE WEELDON, Black is listed at born 1829 SC. CHARATA (CHARITY) BROWN (WEELDON), mulatto (Native), is listed as born in 1833 NC but I have her birthplace listed as VA. Delighted to get your mail and hope to hear from you again. Again, thanks, carol. Notify Administrator about this message?
