Jamers F. Whelan - MI ca. 1892
My maternal great grandfather, James F. Whelan, disappeared in 1892 in Benton Harbor, MI leaving 5 boys and a 24 year old wife (nee, Laura L. Johnson). She subsequently remarried (A.A. Cox). James F. Whelan listed Rochester, New York on the Marriage Record filed near Benton Harbor as his place of residence at the time of marriage (married October 26, 1884). His date of birth was shown as 1863. The 1900 Census shows place of birth of father of the boys as New York. The boys names are: James Arthur Whelan (my grandfather), Richard William Whelan, Gardner Alice Whelan, Thomas Golden Whelan, and Hallet Mills Whelan. James F. Whelan had an advertisement in the Benton Harbor newspaper at the time as a wood-turner along with 2 partners: See & Kniseley. Would appreciate any help you can give me in tracing James back to New York.
