The statue may be that of Edwin Miller Wheelock, a noted abolitionist. You can read his biography here:

Edwin Miller Wheelock is a descendant (son?) of Charles Wheelock who came to New York from Ireland in 1810. He doesn't appear to be descended from Rev. Ralph Wheelock (1600-1683), who is the ancestor of most of the Wheelocks in this country.
