Were there 2 men named Peter F. Wheeler in Baltimore, 1868-1902?

Hi Everyone...

I need some help, please.

Peter F. Wheeler was the brother of my gg grandmother, Mary L. Wheeler Harkum. They were born in Northumberland County VA.

According to census records, Peter married Mary (possibly Haynie)about 1852. The 1860 census lists Peter, Mary and daughter Fenton J. Wheeler living in Northumberland Co. Peter shows up in the 1868/9 Baltimore City Directory as a laborer living on Abbey Alley.

By 1880, Peter and Mary are shown on the census records along with their daughter Fenton and son-in-law John S. Butler and their grandchildren and a nephew, Albert Simms still on Abbey Alley.

On the 1900 census they are all shown on Riverside Avenue.

The 1900, 1901 and 1902 city directories list Peter F. Wheeler as a painter living at 1231 Riverside Ave.

Here's where my problem is:

I have a death cert for Peter F. Wheeler who died 27 May 1902. He is listed as a mariner living at 1427 William St. There is a newspaper article (no obit) telling of the death of Capt Peter F. Wheeler, William St.

This appears to be another Peter F. Wheeler, BUT:

1. There was only one Peter Wheeler listed in the 1900 census and the city directories of 1900-1902.
2. The middle initial "F" on the death certificate agrees with that of the city directory listing of the painter at 1231 Riverside Avenue.
3. According to the 1900 census, Peter Wheeler, painter, was born in Dec 1831 in VA. which places his 70th birthday in Dec 1901. He would have been aged 70 years and 5 month in May 1902, when Peter Wheeler died.
4. The death certificate gives his age as 71 and agrees that his birthplace was VA.

If anyone has any information on Peter F. Wheeler that would prove that they were one and the same person or that they were not, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks.
