Much progress has been made on this family in the last two years thanks to many researchers. Following is a current status report:
Thomas Henry WHEELER, b abt 1812 VA, d 29 Apr 1881 Jackson Twp Keokuk Co IA, buried Friends Cemetery Richland IA. In 1850 lived in Bloom Twp Morgan Co OH. Abt 1851 moved to IA. In 1860 and 1870, lived in Clear Creek and Richland Twps Keokuk Co IA. His occupations were farmer and merchant. He may have had two brothers, (George) Washington WHEELER, b 1807 VA, and Samuel Davis Wheeler, b 1810 VA.
Thomas Henry WHEELER was married four times.
Wife No. 1. Emily MILLER, b OH, d abt 1845 Eagleport Morgan Co OH. Four (4) children: (i) Gilbert WHEELER, b 7 Jan 1837 in Eagleport, d 9 Sep 1881 in Duncan Falls Muskingum Co OH (descendants well known). (ii) Calvin WHEELER, b 8 Nov 1838 OH, d 11 Feb 1865 Jeffersonville Clark Co IN (descendants known). (iii) Elisha (Elitia) WHEELER b 27 Mar 1840 OH, d 31 Dec 1921 Highland Center Wapello Co IA (descendants known). (iv) Melissa WHEELER b abt 1844 OH.
Wife No. 2. Jane PERRY, b 1817 PA, m 30 Oct 1845 Perry Co OH, d 1852 Keokuk Co IA. Three (3) children: (i) Thomas Henry WHEELER Jr, b Aug 1847 Morgan Co OH, d 3 Mar 1895 Irwin Shelby Co IA, buried there (descendants known). (ii) Emily Jane WHEELER, b 30 Mar 1850 Morgan Co OH, m James WILKIN 24 Apr 1890 Talleyrand Washington Co IA, d 28 Oct 1922 Washington Washington Co IA. (iii) Samuel D. WHEELER, b abt 1852 IA, d 22 Mar 1934 Bremen Cook Co IL.
Wife No. 3. Mary SHOCKLEY (Baker), b 21 Jan 1819 Iowa City Johnson Co IA, d 4 Oct 1867 Keokuk Co IA, buried Shockley Cemetery Keokuk Co IA. One (1) child: (i) Mary A. Wheeler, b abt 1855 IA, m Ambrose Downs SANDERS 29 Jul 1879 Keota Keokuk Co IA, d 12 Sep 1919 IA (descendants known).
Wife No. 4. Nancy ______, b abt 1827 OH. Occupation milliner. No children.
Three sons, Gilbert, Calvin and Thomas Henry Jr served in the Iowa Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War; one (Calvin) did not survive.
