Samuel Wheeldon, Carlisle party, 1820 settlers

I believe I am a descendant of Samuel Wheeldon (labourer) who reached Port Elizabeth, South Africa, aged 18 in March 1820,on the ship "Chatham" as part of the "party" sponsored by a man named Carlisle. He is variously reported to have had permission to return to England in 1822, to have drowned in the Great Fish river in 1836 and (possibly) to have been joined by a brother named James. My grandfather, Harry Wheeldon, and his cousins, Arthur and Horace Wheeldon, were born in East London (South Africa) in the late 1800's (Harry about 1882, he was lost at sea in 1930), but all are long deceased and no-one in the family knows what happened between Samuel arriving in 1820 and these three men being born.My own net searching has yielded a Samuel Wheeldon born Feb 18, 1802 to Joseph/Alice in Wirksworth, with a James born in 1807 to Joseph/Sarah in Wirksworth. Intriguing. Can anyone throw any light on any aspect of this?
