I see none has answered, so let me try. My line is not Wheaton, Whedon, Wedon and others, as they changed spelling many times, but one who had marriages into Wheaton line.
How to get started:
First, start backwords from your family listing names, locations, birth, marriage and death dates as far as you can. Talk to, write to any older faamily members and pick their minds. Use Google, maybe sign up for ancestry.com. Get a structured guide such as Family Tree Maker, learn to operate it and start. Find others researching your line, their are several in Mich area. Use massage board by posting name, location any known dates of who you need info on and maybe some background.
