If he was born in Swansea, he is likely decended from Robert Wheaton who founded it. Robert came from Swansea, Wales to Salem MA where in the 1630's he was driven out because he refused to take the Puritan Oath as he was a Baptist.

This is not my line as I can tell but could be. I am stuck in the 1700's in the Norwalk CT and Greenwich CT areas.
