My husband descend's from Curtis Wheatley. Elizabeth Dooley is his wife. These are his known children:

1.unkown male Wheatley b. abt 1798 ( 1800 Guilford Co, NC census)

2. unknown female Wheatley b. 1799 ( 1800 Guilford Co, NC census). This could possiby be Neaty Wheatley who married Elijah Harris 23 Oct 1833 Jefferson Co, AL.

3. Jesse B. Wheatley b. 1805 NC, married 3 Sep 1831 Jefferson Co, AL to Sarah Reed

4. Nathan W or F Wheatley b. abt 1813 GA, married 3 Jul 1833 Jefferson Co, AL to Elizabeth Gowen

5. Newton B Wheatley b. abt 1819 GA, married Nancy A Staggs 14 Aug 1839 Jefferson Co, AL.

Curtis and Elizabeth were on the 1840 Jefferson CO, AL. I don't know about the 1850. Newton B. Wheatley moved to Pontotoc Co, Mississippi and died there.

Curtis Wheatley was born, I think, abt 1776 in either Maryland or Virginia. His parents were James and Elizabeth Wheatley. Here is James Wheatley's will:

I think it is most likely the family of James Wheatley came from Maryland or Virginia. Jams Wheatley's eldest son, Joseph Wheatley, was born abt 1769 Delaware. Another son of James Wheatley's, Jesse Wheatley, was born abt 1782/1784 in either North CArolina or Maryland.

Here is the earliest known record I have of James Wheatley.

Abstracts of Land Entries, Guilford County, North Carolina 1779-1796 and Rockingham County, North Carolina 1790-1795 by Dr. A. B. Pruitt

Entry: Guilford County, # 2574??? ( name illegilbe.) 30 apr 1787, James Wheatley enters 200 acres in Guilford County on waters of Horse Penn or Pinn Creek, border on North West of William Brittain's deeded land and THomas Thornbury's deeded land; includes improvement he lives on and improvement he formerly lived on.

James Wheatley has a daughter, Leah, who married Edward Owens. He performed a few marriages of the Wheatley family.
