Great Grandpa Whealton is missing!!

Hey folks.Just gettin started here. So,any help would be great.
My grandfather's(John W.Whealton) register of marriage(1906) list his place of birth simply as "Maryland". It also list his parents simply as "J.H."(husband)& "A.S."(wife)Whealton. The marriage took place in Richmond Va., which is where my father(John H.Whealton),myself and my brother(John-go figure) were all born. The document list his age as 34, which would put his YOB at abbt.1873. There is no other usefull info on the document. My brother and I still live in Richmond as did our father until he passed in 1999. We never got much info from him, partly I think, because he was only a year old when his father died. This is the only concrete info I have for now. Who is J H.Whealton? Thoughts..Comments...Ideas....Aspirin. Thanks :)WBW
