Anyone researching the Whatcoat family history will inevitably come across the name of Richard Whatcoat (1736-1806). He was born in Quinton, Gloucestershire in England, moved to Darlaston in the industrial Black Country of the West Midlands and eventually became a Methodist Preacher, moving to America in 1784 to ordain his good friend Francis Asbury on behalf of John Wesley.
