Donald,
Have you been able to find out more on the Whaling family since your posting? I have a little info. Posey Whaling the elder married by 1804 Sarah Jones, daughter of William Jones of Stafford (d. 1812). Posey came to Stafford in 1801 from Charles Co., MD, and was the son of Jeremiah Whaling and Mary Posey, daughter of John Posey and his second wife, Elizabeth Maddox. My ancestor, Basil Maddox, was a nephew of your Elizabeth and also came to Stafford from Charles County in the 1790s, as did the Bloxton family. Do you know your Skidmore line? Your ancestor, William Skidmore, married Elizabeth _____. I think this Elizabeth's maiden name holds a clue to my Groves family, as the two families have a number of close connections and have children with like names such as Harrison and Alexander. I think that Elizabeth and Wadey, the wife of Thomas Groves, were sisters. There also may be a clue to Abraham Bloxton's wife, Catherine _______. The "Posey" name comes down early in the Bloxton family, as well. All of these families were so closely connected. My Basil Maddox had a daughter, Benedicta, who married Capt. Samuel Bloxton and there are many other connections. Do you have a list of the children of Posey Whaling the Elder? I would be interested in that, as the names may hold some important clues.

Bill
