We have a new member in the Whalen/Whelan/Phelan yDNA Project.
ID# A00001 who's family can trace back to James Whalen possibly of Co Waterford in Ireland.
This family have tested at Ancestry.com, so their results do not appear on the FTDNA Whalen Project webpage, but on comparison of the results we can see they have no close matches in the group so far.
We have 16 families with no close matches in the project. There must be many Whalen/Whelan/Phelan families out there that are related to them.
We also have 16 families that form our main Co Kilkenny/Laois cluster, with matches indicating they have a common ancestor in the past.
We are awaiting upgrades for 6 of these families to 37 markers. This should help us sort these families into better relationships within this group.
So far no one has a paper trail to to each other.
We still have some funds in our Whalen Group General Fund, so if you have been thinking about joining the project, but costs are an issue, please email, we may be able to assist.
All request will be looked at, though we would give preference to those with strong genealogy trails.
