Thanks Elaine for your report on Michael Weygandt.Like many of us I relied heavily on C.H. Weygandt's "The Family Record" for the family of George Hermann. Now I have to footnote some of it, in that it might be flawed based on later, more extensive research,in Germany.Neil Wheeler provided a very extensive report by Von Wolfgang Billig, in German, on Hermann Weygandt's Diary and the Fateful Life of Georg Hermann Weygand, from 1641 till 1666 Diaconuus in Bechtolsheim and from 1652 till 1666 Lutheran Pastor in the Palatine Niedersaulheim.I had that translated into English.Surprisingly, there is no mention in his writings of a son named Michael. In one instance he writes in the church book of the plague in 1666 where seven of his 10 children died of the plague. He writes about three of his children he buried himself:on August 4, "my little son Phillips Jacob".On August 6 "my daughter Anna Magdalena".And, on August 7 "my daughter Maria Barbara."The funeral of 4 other children on August 16 was no longer undertaken by the father, who in the meantime had himself fallen seriously ill. The Billig researchlists the 10 children of George Hermann as:(1) Maria Margareta born around 1641.On the 3rd Sunday after Easter (4.16) 1654 sponsor to the daughter of the father's brother, Hans Peter Weygand in Partenheim, died after 1666, probably married out of town in 1660.(2)Johan Hermann, born in Bechtolsheim around 1645, died Feb 1st 1685. He wasa member of the Lutheran Parish in Osthofen. He married Anna Kunigunda Christman and had 6 children, including Johan Balthasar (in my line). (3)Phillip Hermann, born around 1645,town miller in Alzey, and organist in 1686. (4) PhilippJacob.(5) Anna Magdalena.(6) Maria Barbara. (7) Balthasar.(8) Georg.(9) Maria Appolonia, and (10) Philipp Folderhus. The last 7 children from Philipp Jacob to Philipp all died in August 1666 of the Plague. In his last entry in his own handwriting on August 13 he writes that he also had to bury 4 children of his brother, Philipp Hermann, who lived in Nieder Saulheim as schoolmaster. On the 16th, in another's handwriting, four children of Pastor George Hermann Weygand were buried.Georg Hermann died three days after the death of his four children.Out of 430 inhabitants of the village, within just a few weeks, 170 fell victim to the plague.
It appears that there were other Weygandt families residing in that area of Germany at that time. However, connecting Michael's name to Georg Hermann's family could be in error.Although, who knows, maybe Von Wolfgang's research missed that name.At any rate, I have a footnote on the matter in my report.
