David, There were two Weyer famiies in York County from the 1750s on. One family was descended from my immigrant ancestor Johann Andreas Weyer pronounced "we're". The other family were descendants of Ludwig Weyer pronounced "wire". Most descendants maintained the pronunciation so that would be your first clue. By the 1830s almost all of Johann's descendants headed west. There were only a few of his grandsons left in York County and I have researched them thoroughly. I am 99% sure you are not descended from Andrew. That would leave Ludwig. Many of his descendants remained in York County much longer. Another clue might be the names of your John Weyer's eldest son, George. Ludwig was originally from Germany and it was a custom to name your eldest son after your father. In the 1930s a librarian at the local historical society gathered all of the pertinent documents related to the surname Weyer up to 1850. This document is a must if you want to do research during that time period. It lists all church records, court records, cemetery records etc. for anyone named Weyer in York County before 1850. If I recall it is about 35 pages. You can obtain a copy from the York County Historical Society or if you send me your address I would be glad to send you a copy. You may also want to email Dorothy Creely. She is the expert on this line. If I can be of any assistance please don't hesitate to ask.
