My father left diaries which tell of how during the wars, the German immigrants fled the Palatinate into Switzerland or Holland, and got ships for America.
I recently found a list of the family names at the Dutch Reformed Church in Schenectady, NY. Van der Woestynes are located also in Pennsylvania. Among the members of the friends church, there were our family names with the Dutch spelling. Margrietien Davids, or Davidse became Davies/Davis. (Galen Hunt/Burger/Whetstone family) Burger was spelled Bogaert, there was Meynderts, (Mynderts Van Every) married Catherine Burger/Burgharts. There was even a town in New York named Woestyne for these Wettsteins or Whetstones.
