This is probably something you are already aware of, and it possibly has no connection to your family, but my grandfather, William John Sherlock was born in Wetmore, Kansas in 1886. Wetmore lies in Nemaha County about 25 miles west of St. Joseph, MO. His grandfather, Thomas Joseph Sherlock (born at Houndscourt, County Limerick, Ireland on St. Patrick's Day in 1828) settled a 160 acre homestead near Maryville, MO in 1879 after traveling (and stopping along the way) by covered wagon, since his mother died in Chicago in 1873. He had 10 children, most of whom, including my great-grandfather, Thomas Joseph Sherlock (also), went all the way to Maryville with him.

Could Wetmore, Kansas have been named after your noted ancestor. Though it is a very small town, they have a website. Just thought you might be interested.

Tim Sherlock
