There is a whole book devoted to your family: Judith Baxter, ed, Clifton Royal The Wetmores and Village Life in Nineteenth Century New Brunswick (Gatineau: Canadian Museum of Civilization, nd). I can't find a date on my copy, but I'm pretty sure it is within the last five years. It is part of the Mercury Series, History Paper 53.
Our DNA project has two or more descendants of the Canadian branch of the family, although they are all from lines that back migrated to the states. Visit us at www.WhitmoreFamily.infoWe'd love to have some of our Canadian cousins join the project.
As others have noted, the Canadian branch of the family is descended from Thomas Wetmore of Middletown (d. 1681). He arrived in New England sometime before 1640 -- tradition says 1635.We have not yet been able to trace the line across the pond, although some genealogies on the net erroneously link him to the Whittamores of Hitchin, Herts who are NOT related.
