Just in case there is a connection with the other surnames on this board; I have since learned that Andreas Wintjen
was born 6-5-1827 in Bremervorde, Province of Hannover.
Andreas left the Port of Bremen, Germany 12-23-1853 on the Ship Monmouth which sailed into the Port of New Orleans, La.
Andreas Wintjen married Elizabeth (Elsebe) Schlichting after arriving to the US. They made their home in St. Louis, Mo. for a short time, then later settled in Calhoun County, Ill. Peter Wintjen being Andreas' brother also came to US at the same time as Andreas. Peter Wintjen married Elizabeth Schlichting's sister, Catharine Schlichting. After living in Calhoun Co., Ill. Peter and wife later settled in Crawford Co., Ks. Any conections, please let me know.
