First, I would like to thank all those that post to the forum. In the personal letters of my g-g-grandfather, Thomas Crocker Wester, I found an item which might be of interest to Westray relatives. (This line of Westrays changed their name to Wester) Thomas Crocker Wester's brother, William Vann Wester, moved to Cherokee, Alabama late 1869 and wrote his brother, ..."Since coming to this county I have found a very large family of Westers. Some 20 or 25 families. They are all our relations. I did no know that there were any of them here until I came down here. Axham, James, and John, are very common names among them. The oldest Axham here is about 62 years old. His grand father and our great grand father were brothers. I think his father was named Daniel and his grand father Axham. He has the Wester favor – they are all great folks for sweet potatoes. You know that is a Wester character." William Vann Wester's great grandfather was Daniel Westray (Wester)who came from Isle of Wight, Virginia and settled in Bute (later Franklin) County, NC. I believe he was the son of John Westray Jr. who also had a son named Exum (Axham). Hopefully, this will help some of those Alabama and North Carolina relatives.
