Thank you, Steven. After much study, this is the same conclusion I finally came to. So it appears that I have, indeed located my James' parents -- George WESTLAKE and Mercy SMITH?
Does anyone know for sure where James C. WESTLAKE (1786 PA -- 1869 IN) was married and to whom? His kids all claimed Ohio as their place of birth, and the 2nd child, Rachel, was almost certainly b. in 1811 near Cadiz in Belmont (now Harrison) County, so it appears that Belmont Co. seems more likely than does PA. A later generation, in a 1902 published biography, claimed Rachel (no last name) as the mother of James' first family of children, but another descendant has her name as Sarah BURRIS, and one or more families of this name were in Belmont Co. in 1810.
