Here is a follow-up on my Westlake family tree.My tree ties in with that of Sandra Horde, who has so kindly posted her website above.
Her famiy tree starts with William Westlake, who married Mary ? about 1742 in Somerset County, England.
If you follow her tree, you see that the children of William and Mary Westlake were Amos Westlake, William Westlake, Hannah Westlake, Mary Westlake, and Adam Westlake, who was christened Sep 10, 1758 and who died on Nov 17, 1841.
Her family then descends from the next-oldest child, William, I believe, and mine from the youngest child, Adam, whose baptism and death dates are given above. As she notes, Adam Westlake and Elizabeth Masters of Long Sutton were married the twenty-sixth of June, 1777, Somerton. (film # 1526731).
Adam and Elizabeth's marriage is #221 in the marriage section of the Parish Register.
I then have a number of children born to Adam and Elizabeth (Betty) Masters Westlake. My baptism list begins with Sarah, who was baptised in 1785.I do not have the first three baptisms, as I have not checked the Long Sutton film yet, but after Sarah, I have Elizabeth, Adam, Eve, George, and John.
This Adam, who was baptized October 31, 1790, was the father of Caroline Westlake, whom I first started trying to find.Adam married Harriet ?, who, according to the Census of 1851, was born in Bath.I am still trying to find a record of their marriage. (Census Record, Somerton, Somerset County, England, is film # 221083)
Adam and Harriet Westlake had four children that I can document.Jane Westlake was baptized on May 11, 1817, in the parish church of Somerton. It appears that she married John Munday (Mundy)on October 3, 1835, in the parish church in Somerton. His parents appear to be Edward and Sarah Munday.John Munday appears to have been baptized January 17, 1813, in the parish church of Somerton, and may be the John Munday whose burial is recorded in the Burial Records at age 39 in 1850. (film # 1526731)
The baptism records for younger children Charles, Caroline, and William appear in the previous post. The Parish Baptism Register even gave the birthdates for Caroline and William, as I have noted in that post.
I am still searching for many of the records for the above family. It would appear that some or all of them left the Church of England, and perhaps the area, at about this time (1851 or so).The next documented record I have is of the marriage of the son of Caroline Westlake Gardiner, William Westlake Gardiner, to Emma Smith, in Street, Somerset County, in the Congregation Chapel on May 11, 1876.
Within five years, William Westlake Gardiner and Emma Smith Gardiner would have three children, and would, in 1881, immigrate to America, living first in Moberly, MO, and then in Mount Vernon, IL, and finally, Champaign, IL, where he died.
I hope this research can be helpful to someone else.(All films were obtained through the LDS family research center in Birmingham, AL)
