Hi Scott,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Your great grandparents (Alice/Alyce & Oscar) were the adoptive parents of Nell Custis Frommelt (my mother) who was born on July 4, 1931 (or 1930?). She married Joseph John Coratola on August 5, 1956. I am the only child born to Nell & Joe (Rosemarie Coratola, DOB - 8/29/1957). Nell died September 1960 (I'll have to get back to you about the specific date.)
From the dates of birth listed previously, I would guess that Oscar & Alice were old enough to be Nell's grand parents & Maxine might be old enough to be Nell's mother(?). I have no information about Nell's adoption (e.g., how/why Alyce & Oscar came to adopt Nell). Is Maxine still alive? I would be interested in knowing about Maxine, (e.g., Where did Maxine & John live, their personalites, etc.?).
Nell met my father (Joe) in Washington, DC. He worked in a dental clinic affiliated with Georgetown Univ. and they married when was in the Navy and stationed in Bainbridge, MD. They moved to Bristol, CT (Joe's parents lived near there) in 1958 or 1959.
My dad believed that Oscar had a wholesale florist business, which was lost after the depression and then he went to work as a gardner/horticulturist on the Merriweather Post estate in Washington, DC. I don't know much about Alyce other than she was ill (possibly cancer[?) before she died.
Please feel free to email me back channel at [email protected].
Best,
Rosemarie
