William's father Joshua Hudson Westbrooks was born 9/15/1817 probably in Franklin Co. GA and died at his home on Little Mill Rd. on 9/9/1895. He and his wife Castletine Melissa "Cassie" Coggins (ca. 1832-1913)are buried at New Prospect Methodist Church near Buford, where they were charter members. Josh died of injuries he sustained when the horse pulling his wagon got spooked and tried to run, causing the wagon to flip over on him. It happened within sight of his house. My grandfather George Shelton Bailey, who was 7 years old at the time, witnessed the accident that claimed his grandfather's life. Josh lived two days after the accident before succumbing to his injuries. My grandfather was very close to his maternal grandparents and remembered both of them vividly. His mother was Martha Jane Westbrooks, born ca. 1858 Jackson Co. GA, second child of Josh and Cassie, who married James Oliver Bailey, son of David M. Bailey and Mary Shelton. Josh and Cassie had 12 children (they took it personally when the Lord said to "be fruitful and multiply"), so there must be a gazillion of their descendants around.
