Wendell, There were apparently two William Westbrooks from Franquier County West Virginia. I also was given information on the other William L. Westbrook. I believe that my William Westbrook was William A. Westbrook. He was born in 1786 and was from Virginia. From the information that I was given all of this has been documented up to William A. Westbrook and his wife Dorcas Moffet. So far we haven't been able to go back beyond William A. Westbrook and his wife Dorcas Moffet. A number of years ago I was given quite a lot of information on this family from a researcher. I won't list all of the information here, but here is some of it. There seems little doubt that all the Westbrooks found in Belmont, Monroe and Noble Counties, Ohio in 1850 are closely related, probably siblings (this has since been proven true). All are born in Virginia: and when they move it is into the Township where another Westbrook is living. Based on minimal records, the family arrived in Ohio during the 1830's. Being 64 in 1850, William was born c1786 in Virginia. This indicates his family was in Virginia prior to 1785 and it's quite possible that William's father was in the Revolutionary War. In 1790, Westbrook/Westbroke/Westbrooke families in America: 32 individual families, totaling 191 people. Average number per family: 6.0. Located in: New York - 5, Pennsylvania - 6, Virginia - 9, North Carolina - 12. I hope this helps. Let me know if you find out information on my William A. Westbrook. I would appreciate it.
