I am still doing research & would love to find a John Henry WESTALL b Dec 6, 1839 in Bedminster, Eng. John's brother, James, had a dau. Lucy Elizabeth Parrott Westall who m William Hall Aug 26, 1890 in Bristol.
Wm's parents were Philip & Elizabeth nee Whiting, who wed 1858 in Bristol. % 1881 census Philip was a Bargeman, 50, b Bristol; Elizabeth, wife, 42, b Bristol, Pipe Maker; George, son 18 [all children b Bristol]Pottery Labourer; William, son 18, Merchant's Clerk; Sarah, dau., 14, At Home; Elizabeth, dau., 11, Scholar; Mary Ann, dau., 5, Scholar; Tom, son, 3, Scholar; Charlotte, dau. 1; Sarah Whiting, Mother-in-law, 64, b Bristol, No Occ.
Children of Lucy & Wm. Hall % 1901 Census were Gladys b 1891, Gwendoline Mary b 1892 & Marion Lucy b 1894 - all b Bristol. Wm. was a Cashier for a Paper Firm, age 36 & Lucy was 32.
It was my husband's father, Frederick George Westell who was in the care of Wm. Hall, as Fred's parents died when he was young. Not surprising as his father, James, was 67 when he had Fred.
Lucy was also the Guardian for Denys George Westell, b 1913, who attended Bristol Grammer School from 1921. His Father [don't know who Denys' father was] was listed as deceased. There may have been other children that the Hall family took in? They lived at 15 Clifton Wood Road, Bristol for many years, but were found % 1881 census at No. 5, Temple Backs East, Bristol, Temple, GLS.
It would be wonderful to know if there is a connection with these Halls & yours. I'd like to know more about the John Westall who m Ellen Hall, too & maybe someone will offer some material in regards to him.
Thanks so much for posting & notifying me. I made an error in my email address, so didn't hear from Genforum.
