The only census record in which I found Monroe West lists him as S.M. West, age 30, born South Carolina, a hotel keeper in 1880 Camp Co. Texas. His wife was Nannie Diamond. He died in 1888 and is buried in Rose Hill cemetery in Pittsburg. Family tradition says his family was from Spartanburg, SC, but I've been unable to find his family of origin there (or elsewhere). Anyone working on this line?
