died 01 Apr 1873, Philadelphia, Phila, PA, white, female, married [but widowed in 1867 when husband George W. SHAFFER died at 1241 Struthers St, Phila] Catherine WEST SHAFFER's residence 1241 Struthers St, Phila, PA. Burial: Philanthropic Cemetery per film #2021792; Digital GS # 4010159, image #469.
Found in many Philadelphia City Directories under husband George W. SHAFFER's household from 1840's through 1871 and 1872 living at 1241 Struthers Street, Philadelphia, PA. Latter two directories list as Shaffer, Catherine widow Geo. h. 1241 Struthers.
Catherine WEST and George W. SHAFFER had children, Elizabeth; Susann(ha); Amanda C. born July 1839; Henry; Sarah to name several. Daughter Amanda C. SHAFFER married Edward M. POTTS who died a Civil War POW at Andersonville Prison August 28, 1864. Daughter Susannah or Susann married Charles B. TEESE shown as an equestrian and also shown as a circus rider in several census'.
Other names shown as living with Catherine WEST and George W. SHAFFER in various census years are Thomas McDONALD, MARTIN; and from cemetery records at Fernwood comes the surnames: BLACK; HOMAN; SHONE;
Looking for anyone who might recognize this WEST / SHAFFER family who lived all their lives in Philadelphia, PA. Would like to locate information leading to the identity of the parents of Catherine WEST (the WEST surname has been passed down at least 3 generations in my family and I'm searching for the information on the identities of ancestors)
