Item #110097347174

The seller is americasantiques in case someone reads this after the auction ends. There are 2 scrapbooks with these quilts. I hope the family sees this.

This is the copy for the item:

Such a RARE find - 2 Redwork quilts - one dated 1893 and the other dated 1896!!! We also purchased the family scrapbook, complete with photos and original redwork patterns for these 2 quilts. The first 3 photos are of the quilt signed and dated "Mary S. Wessling 1893" and also has "S. Kirch", "Olive Wessling", "Your Daughter Laura" and "Blanche Wessling Feb. 17, 1894" as well as many elaborate florals and animals with floral vining borders all hand done in red cotton embroidery floss on a bright white cotton. Measuring 78" x 73", it has a very thin cotton batting and a white back, which was brought around to the front and machine stitched to form a 1/4" wide binding. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting over the entire quilt @ 12 very neat and very tiny stitches per inch counting only one side. The last 3 photos are of the redwork quilt dated 1896 in a floral wreath and includes "Pleasant Dreams", "Rest", "Dream", "Good Morning" and "Good Night" as well as the names "Blanche, Sept. 14", "Your Mamma", "S. Kirch", "Your Sister Blanche", "S. A. Wessling", "Your Sister Pearl", and "Mabel Messner", and many wonderful florals and animals, all hand embroidered in red cotton embroidery floss on a bright white cotton background. Measuring 74" x 71", it has a thin cotton batting, a white back, and a hand applied white binding. HAND QUILTED with diamond quilting, and rope quilting on the borders @ 10 to 12 stitches per inch counting only one side. Both quilts have been PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED FOR THE FIRST TIME, and we found no rips, tears, stains or odors on either - SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!! In addition to the 2 quilts, the buyer will also receive a scrapbook with photos of Blanche, Pearl and Olive Wessling as well as others (most taken at Chicago photography studios), a complete geneology written by Olive Frantz to her Sociology Professor on January 17, 1938 (placing the family in PA after arriving from Germany and finally settling in North Northfield, IL - very interesting!), the original paper patterns for the redwork, and hundreds of newspaper photos of Ministers (Reverends). AN EXCITING COLLECTION!!
