Jan, you are the first other person I've heard refer to the indian heritage in the Wessel line. Maybe some one else could help us out with that. I was always told that I had some indian blood in me, but no one has ever been specific. Unfortunately Lena Borcherdt that married Henry Frederick Wessel was said to have been born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and came through Chicago at age 3 before settling in Morgan township in Crawford County, Iowa (reference to article in History of Crawford County, Volume I, 1987, page 571- this can be found in the Denison library and includes a picture of the couple).

Henry was born in Douglas Grove, Illinois in 1856 to Henry and Marie Wessel. The family moved to Morgan township when Henry was 26. He he married Lena that year.

Together they had 11 children:

Mary Sophie, Mrs. Otto Albert Kroll
Alvena, Mrs. John Carl Rademaker
Emma E., Mrs. Alfred Johnson
Edith Adeline, Mrs. Fred Grover Keiner (my line)
Henry Frank who married Freda Caroline Rademaker
August Alvin who married Alma Westaby
George A. who married Lillian H. Salin
Elsie Laura, Mrs. Frank Rotnicke
Lydia Florence, Mrs. Paul Emil Schmidt
Ernest Vernon who married Verna Anna Michealsen
Eva Louise, Mrs. Harld C. Baumann

I am very interested in your Grandpa Ernie's family. I have nothing beyond his wedding day except his death date, nothing on children, grandchildren, etc. My Wessel info is not easily accessible right now because I just moved, but I would be glad to share with you what I could muster up. I know many people have much more then I do though.

I look forward to hearing from you.
