Wesner/Westner/Wesnor/Wisnor/Westhöfer
The study of a German ancestor is often a study in the various spellings of the name. Early records of George Wesner's family often spell the name Westner and since he used his mark to sign his marriage bond it is most likely the spelling was left up to the scribe. I find it intriguing that it was often written as Westner indicating a definite annunciation and I suspect the original name may have been Westhöfer.
Judith Wesner Miller's 1837 application for a widow's pension indicated that at the time of her marriage to George Miller, her parents lived in Funkstown, Washington Co. MD and that she had a brother, Jacob last known living in Brown Co. OH. She claimed to have been married by Rev. Wymer in May 1777 and while her marriage record cannot be found, there is a record of Rev. Jacob Weimer performing the marriage of Jacob Wisnor to Susannah Jolly on Jul 1 1780.
An 1883 bio sketch of James Westner, son of George Westner indicated that George's brothers fought in the Revolutionary War and that he fought in the War of 1812. A pension filed for George Miller lists his wife as Judith Wesner and references living in Crawford Co. IL where they can be found living in the 1818 & 1820 census along with George Wesner. George was married 1793 to Nancy Eaton in Bourbon Co. KY where 1799 & 1800 tax records show George Millar & Jacob Wisnor living.
