My great-grandfather was JAMES WESCOTT NEAL, b. 9/13/1859 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. His mother died by 1864 in Illinois. I do not know her first name. I was told that James' middle name, WESCOTT, was his mother's maiden name.
James' father (my g g grandfather) was Sidney Earl Neal, b. 10/02/1834 in Canada. His family moved to NY when Sidney was an infant.
Sidney may have married his first wife in NY. He left NY in his 20's and went to Wisconsin for a short while before he ended up in Illinois, where James Wescott Neal was born.
There is a possibility that he met her in Wisconsin and married her there.
I know that Sidney Neal married again in 1864 in Illinois. There is no record in Illinois of a previous marriage.
Is there anyone doing research on the WESCOTT surname that might have a connection to NEAL?
