Whoops, I forgot to add that Caroline's paternal great grandfather was George Wert, and it is he who was probably named in the will not Peter, as Peter would have been too old to have been her father. I run into a bit of trouble because it *appears* there were two brothers, William and Christian Wert(chen) who came together on 20 Aug 1755 from Germany. They settled close to one another, but on the border of two counties that subsequently go subdivided and I haven't gotten that far into it to determine how closely-- the chen was dropped early on -- the names overlap. I am not 100% sure they are the progenitors as there is also a Peter Werts in the picture around the same time. More or less. :) Still, I am pretty sure this family is mine. Suzy P.S.
