I have wondered for a while now whether the WERLINE/WORLINE surname is a derivative of WOERNLEIN.

My g-g-grandfather was Johann (John)WOERNLEIN, b.16 JUN 1816 in Germany, d. 1 AUG 1894 in Baltimore, MD. Extant family spells it that way, which may be the reason I cannot seem to get him back across the Atlantic.

Any chance these surnames have the same roots?
