The three men you mention in your post: Andrew, Daniel and Jeremiah Wentz, were all grandsons of John Andrew (Johan Andreas) Wentz, born c. 1729, d. 1809, and his wife Catherine. John Andrew Wentz came from the Palatine region of what is now Germany in 1750. His ancestors were likely Swiss, from Basle, Switzerland.
John Andrew and Catherine Wentz were probably founding members of the congregation of the Morning Star Lutheran Church, originally called Crooked Creek. They had eight children mentioned in his will which was written 15 April 1809. The children, in the order in which they are mentioned in the will, were:
1. John Wentz (c.1751-1827, married twice, Catherine Starnes in 1791, and Catherine Carricker in 1816)
2. Barbara Wentz (married Leonard Lipe)
3. Valentine (married Lydia Vince?)
4. Catherine (married John Slinker/Slinkard)
5. Christin (married Mr. Richard)
6. Margaret (married William Bynam in 1797)
7. Esther "Easter" Wentz (c.1778-1853, married Jacob Starns in 1798)
8. Mary Magdaline Wentz (1779-1877, married William Rice)
Andrew, who married Sophia (Hartis?) Stanford, was a son of Valentine Wentz and Lydia. Daniel, who married Mary Stillwell, and Jeremiah, who married Margaret Stillwell, were both sons of John Wentz and Catherine Starns.
Catherine Starns, born c. 1774, was a daughter of Captain John Starnes (c.1745-1780), a soldier of the Revolution, who may have been killed in the Battle of King's Mountain. She was the granddaughter of Frederick Starns, Jr. (c.1724-1779), and great granddaughter of Frederick Starns/Staring (c.1700-1775), and his wife Mary Goldman, who had come from the Palatine region with their families as children in 1710, first settling in NY and later coming to Virginia.
Jacob Starns (1775-1848), who married Esther/Easter Wentz, was another grandson of Frederick Starns/Staring, Sr. and Mary Goldman, being the son of Joseph Starns (c.1730-1779) and his wife Katherine (probably Carlock or Guerlach). Jacob Starns and Easter Wentz were my 4th great grandparents. I am descended from their son Valentine Starns/Stearns (c.1800-1875). His son Dulin Stearns (c.1836-1863) married Rusha Elizabeth King (1837-1893). Through my King line, I am kin to some other Wentzes and Hartises by marriages.
I'd be pleased to compare notes with you.
