Wendroff Family Genealogy Forum

I have to second S.'s e-mail. My great grandfather, Reuven Wendroff, had his name anglicized to Wendrow at Ellis Island. He came from a 6-street shtetl called Hrosove. (Pronounced Grosove in Yiddish). My father's mother was a Wendrow. They came to this country because Reuven borrowed money to purchase a piece of timber land. He was then told he couldn't own it because he was a Jew. Not being able to recover the money for his creditor, he came to the U.S. to earn money and pay off his creditor. He brought over the rest of the family a little at a time, as he could afford. By 1921, all of Reuven Wendrow's children (and his wife, of course) were in the United States.
