Anneke,
My great-grandfather was Bernhard Heinrich Wempe, from the town of Westerholt in the province of Oldenburg, Germany. He was born on Oct12, 1838.
He immigrated to the Netherlands.Was married in the city of Sneek,in the province of Friesland to an Aaltje de Vries from Sneek. They had 13 children. My grandfather Carl Friedrich Johann, was number 7. He married Sjoertje Faber of Hindelopen. They had 2 children, Bernhard Heinrich and Petronella Alida. The family moved to the city of Haarlem in the Netherlands.
Bernhard Heinrich had 4 children, Carl Friedrich Johann and Bernhard Heinrich.
Carl moved to Edmonton Alberta Canada in 1955

I hope this will help you. There are lots of Wempe's in Holland and most of them come from Oldenburg Germany. They also have a family Crest.
