Hi, would anyone know of a Bethel Welton who is apply for a land petition in Cape Breton 1812, he states he has lived in Nova Scotia for 29 years and a wife and 6 children and living in Sydney, Cape Breton, native of America. In 1817, Bethel has 26 years in N.S., then 9 years in Cape Breton, application for a land grand, Cornish Town Road, near Meloney's Creek, C.B. In 1842 the is a Bethel Welton (Junior?) who m. a Sarah McCrae (McGray, McGra?),they are married in St. George Church, Sydney, Cape Breton. The missing link: Mary Francis Welton who m. a David McLeod b. Isle of Skye: one of their children was a Henry Bethel McLeod born <1850> in Cape Breton, moves to Saint John, New Brunswick, 1881 and 1901 Canadian census, wife Melinda (Malinda) Martha Cain (McKeen?). One of Henry's siblings was a Mary McLeod, could she be Mary Jane McLeod born <1856> Cape Breton who married Augustus Mattewson 1873 Saint John, N.B. who was born in Sweden, ship's carpenter. Their daughter Kattie Ann Mattewson m. Janne Lars Jonsson aka John Lars Johnson born Brunnby Parish, Skane, Sweden. John was a painter of Atlantic Tall Ships, and 5 of his paintings are in the New Brunswick Museum.
