I found the name recently in a baptism transcript. John Wells was a sponsor at the baptism of Edward Wells McInnes, my gr gr grandfather, on 29th October 1865, in the Roman Catholic parish church, Curragh, Co. Kildare, a few miles from Dublin. Edward's father was in the army, the Royal Engineers. We have been puzzled about the origin of Edward's middle name, and it seems that the baptism record may have provided an answer in John Wells. Unfortunately we know nothing about John, or the connection between him and the McInnes family, if there is one.
There was another sponsor at the baptism, Mary Osbourne, but again nothing is known of her, or her link with the family or with John Wells.
